Abstract

The study explorer the use of “English Singsing” YouTube video on students’ vocabulary enhancement – a pre-experimental study at the first grade of Junior High School in Indonesia. The objective of this study is to investigate whether “English Singsing” YouTube video is significantly effective in students’ vocabulary enhancement. It aims at elaborating the three points, namely (1) the students’ vocabulary mastery before using “English Singsing” YouTube video, (2) the students’ vocabulary mastery after using “English Singsing” YouTube video, and (3) the effectiveness of using “English Singsing” YouTube video to enhance students’ vocabulary mastery. This is a pre-experimental study, employing one experimental group of 24 first grade students at one of Junior High School in Indonesia. The group was taught with “English Singsing” YouTube video to enhanced student’s vocabulary mastery. The data were students’ score in vocabulary test, given before the treatment (pretest) and after the treatment (posttest). Then, the data were processed to the statistical analysis. The statistical results of the data analysis show that the average score of students’ vocabulary test before using “English Singsing” YouTube video is 48.54, it means low category, while the average score in the result of posttest by using “English Singsing” YouTube video is 81.14, it means high category. Moreover, from the significance, the t count (11.85) was higher than t table (2.06). In brief, H0 is rejected and H1 is accepted. It means there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary score. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of using “English Singsing” YouTube video in student’s vocabulary mastery. The use of “English Singsing” YouTube video should be maintained frequently and recommended to English teachers, especially to teach Junior High School students in order to attract their motivation in learning English to be more fun.
