Abstract
This thesis discusses and study of the drama genre in Gabriele Muccino’s The Pursuit of Happyness (2006). Even though drama is one of the most popular genre in movie industry, but many people who enjoy movie or even who enjoy drama film still do not know about drama genre. Some people even think drama is a part of romance genre and that is absolutely wrong. This research tries to explain the specific reason of drama movie genre categorized as drama genre through analyst and study. This research itself uses a qualitative descriptive method to describe the research result. To analyze this research, the writer uses formula and genre theory from John G Cawelti as grand theory and also cinematography theory from Blain Brown as supporting theory. The result of this research is that The Pursuit of Happness (2006) movie by Gabriele Muccino is proven as drama genre through either formula, genre or cinematography aspect. This kind of research can also implies on another research about drama movie genre to be proven as it is a drama movie. The writer hopes this research can inform the readers on how to categorize a movie as drama genre and also to let people know that drama genre is a genre that different from other genre.
