Abstract

The Qur'an was revealed without a doubt. With the revelation of the Qur'an as a guidance for mankind, it is hoped that humans can live life according to what is ordered and stay away from what is forbidden. However, many humans violate the rules that have been set, so that it becomes a source of destruction. Therefore, it is necessary to conduct research on this topic with research questions (1) What are the language representaments of a dirty heart as a sign of destruction in Sahih International? (2) How does Peirce's theory interpret a dirty heart as a sign of destruction in Sahih International? This research used a qualitative content analysis method and the data were analyzed using triadic relation theory by Charles Sanders Peirce (1931) regarding semiotics process and Tafseer Ibn-Katsir (myIslam.org.) as the main reference. From the data analysis, the findings showed that the language representaments of a dirty heart as a sign of destruction in Sahih International were the verses that contained punishments and threats. Three of the ten verses that were used as data described destruction in the form of punishment that had been decreed specifically for a group of people or individual and seven out of ten verses contained the meaning of destruction in the form of threats that were not specifically addressed to a group of people or individual. Meanwhile, Peirce's theory interpreted a dirty heart as a sign of destruction in Sahih International, in which the representaments were the people that had been described in the verses either specifically or not specifically (only the characteristics). Then the objects were the destructions in the form of punishments or threats. Finally, the interpretant, those who had a dirty heart were the ones who got the punishment or threat. Based on the findings, it can be concluded that the cause of their destructions were caused by their dirty hearts. Their hearts were dirty because of the fitnah (disturbance) that entered their hearts.
