Abstract

Downton Abbey movie is one of the popular movies that adapted from the original series. It is included in the Masterpiece Classic Anthology. This movie is an interesting one to analyze. The purpose of the research is to examine what types of deixis are found in the Downton Abbey movie and what is the meaning of each type of deixis that has been found in the movie. The data in this study will be analyzed using descriptive qualitative methods. Descriptive qualitative research is to narrate and explain data related to variables, behaviors, and phenomena that occur in the research process based on the real situation. The sources of data are taken from the Downton Abbey movie script. The result of the research shows that five types of deixis found in the Downton Abbey movie there are Researchers found the types of deixis used, namely: person deixis (I, me, my, myself, we, us, our, you, your, yourself, he, she, his, him, her, herself, they, their, them), place deixis (here, there), time deixis (yesterday, now, tomorrow), discourse deixis (this, that) and social deixis (king, queen, prince, princess, my lord, my lady, mr, mrs, miss, major, your majesty, lord, lady, monsieur, madame, granny, father, mother, daughter, cousin, my darling, papa, mama, mum). In addition, the results of this study indicate that each utterance has its own meaning depending on the context.
