Abstract

Speaking is a skill in oral mode, and it's liked any other skill, is more complicated than it seemed at first and involves more than just words. Speaking plays a vital role in EFL classes. With the advance of technology nowadays, the teacher can use more than one means, namely multimodal listening as a tool of instruction. This research is to investigate the development of students' speaking abilities in EFL classroom through multimodal listening. This study aims: (1) to find observe how can students’ develop their speaking in the EFL classroom by multimodal listening, (2) to find out does multimodal listening improve students’ speaking skill will develop. This research is a case study which used a qualitative approach. The participants of the research were thirty-four students at IX grade and the teacher of MAN 1 Bandung. The data was obtained from observation, questionnaire, and interview. The data analysis was presented by describing the result of observation, questionnaire responses and interview transcription. The findings of data analysis showed that students' speaking skill in the classroom could develop with the presence of multimodal listening as an introduction to learning material provided by the teacher. Likewise, the teacher said that the use of multimodal listening as support for learning materials can improve student understanding and speaking skills in English in the classroom. In conclusion, the use of multimodal listening as a support for learning material can improve students' speaking abilities in the classroom. This study is recommended for those English teachers or future researchers.
