Abstract

In translating a text, ideology tendency is important in deciding which side translation go, whether foregnizing or domesticating. Many of freelance translators will produce different translation results because each translator has different knowledge and different technique when they translate a text, this is related to the importance of the ideology tendency of translator. This study aims to find out the differences and similarities of translation techniques and to analyse the ideology tendency Lebah Ganteng and Rizal Adam possesses toward the dominant technique of translation used in the Black Panther movie subtitle. This study is qualitative research using descriptive-analytical method, since this study deals with words that show a more in-depth understanding and has aimed to describe the technique of translation used as an ideology tendency in movie subtitle. The data in this study is limited by picking out the sample acquired to the cultural terms proposed by Espindola and Vasconcellos (2006). The data are categorised based on some theories. First is the techniques of translation proposed by Molina and Albir (2002) and the ideology tendency proposed by Venuti (1995). This study reveals two findings. First, from the total of 14 techniques of translation found and 95 selected data, there are 22 differences in the use of techniques found to translate 31 same data and nine similar techniques used in translating 64 same data by Rizal and Lebah. Second, the ideology tendency possesses by Rizal Adam and Lebah Ganteng is foreignising, as the dominant techniques they used to translate Black Panther movie subtitle are oriented to the source language. Around 61 data are translated foregnising and 34 data are translated domesticating by Rizal, meanwhile, around 60 data are translated foregnising and 35 data are translated domesticating by Lebah.
