Abstract

There are many factors that influence on students’ achievements in English. One of those factors is listening skill. The purpose of this research is to know the effectiveness of teaching English using Guided Note-Taking technique to increase students’ listening at grade ten of the MA Andalusia Cilograng, Lebak-Banten. The hypothesis of this research is Ha, means that there is an effective of using Guided Note-Taking technique to increase students’ listening skill. Ho, means that there is no effective of using Guided Note-Taking technique to increase students’ listening skill. The method of this research was quantitative method. The data which gained naturally was explained, analyzed and concluded. Whereas, the technique used in collecting data were observation, interview, pre-test, and post-test. To know variable X (Experimental Class; using Guided Note-Taking Technique), and variable Y (Control Class; without using Guided Note-Taking Technique), the researcher conducted the pre-test and post-test to sixty students. The result shows that the effect of Guided Note-Taking to increase listening skill as follows: the average score for post-test in experimental class (using GNT) is 66.9 and the average in control class (without GNT) is 60. It was known that the hypothesis post-test in experimental and control class is tcount (2.76) > ttable (1.67). It indicates that there was significant difference finding in using Guided Note-Taking technique and without it on English learning achievement. From this reality, it was concluded that students’ listening at the MA Andalusia Cilograng became improved. Therefore, using Guided Note-Taking technique to increase students’ listening skill is an effective. Thus, it is necessary for the teacher provided some methods and techniques which are appropriate with the circumstance of the students, in order that the students get interested in learning English.
