Abstract

The purpose of this deixis research, is to analyze the types of deixis found in the lyrics of Paramore songs in the Brand New Eyes album. The writer chose the album Paramore Brand New Eyes because this album was the popular in 2009, and the lyrics were the songwriter experience. From the analysis that has been done that is the percentage of deixis type of each classification. There are 125 deixis with various types of deixis, the writer found in the lyrics. 76 words (61%) of deixis dominate the analysis of data such as first person deixis "I, me, my, myself, we, us, our" . While second person deixis like "you, your" and third person deixis "he, his, she, her, herself, it, they, them ". 6 words (5%) for the spatial deixis, such as "anywhere, somewhere, here, there". 9 words (7%) for time deixis such as "this time, now, next time, then, morning, tonight, yesterday". 18 words (14%) for discourse deixis, such as "this, that, those" and the last 16 words (13%) for social deixis such as "bad person, jury, judge, friend, stranger, sir, bestfriend, kid, god , prince, demon, hero, ghosts ". The writer also found references to describe grammatical cohesion on the Paramore Brand New Eyes album, grammatical cohesion such as exophoric and endophoric references and can be seen in five types of deixis. First is exophora of person deixis such as “we, us, she, your”, exophora of spatial deixis “here”, exophora of spatial deixis “now, yesterday”, exophora of spatial deixis “this”, and exophora of social deixis “God”. The writer also found anaphora of deixis. First anaphora of person deixis “he, his, she, herself”, anaphora of spatial deixis “here”, anaphora of temporal deixis “yesterday, wake up”, anaphora of discourse deixis “that, this”, anaphora of social deixis “sir”. Next is the cataphoric reference. Cataphora of person deixis “it”, cataphora of spatial deixis “there”, cataphora of temporal deixis “now”, cataphora of discourse deixis “that”, The last is cataphora of social deixis “demon”.
