Abstract

Writing is the process of thinking to express ideas, thinking to invent ideas in good writing and arranging the ideas into clear statement. Most of the students still think that writing is difficult to express their idea. The English teacher should find out the solution by creating an efficient and effective media to improve students’ writing skill. One of media in teaching writing is Caricature. This research was conducted to find out (1) students’ writing skill using caricature media, (2) students’ writing skill using conventional media, (3) the significant difference between students’ writing skill using caricature media and conventional media. The method used in this research is quantitative approach with quasi-experimental method. The sample of this research is the second grade students of MTs Yamisa Soreang, Bandung. One class as an experimental class (20 students) and one class as a control class (20 students). The research was conducted in three steps: pre-test, treatments and post-test. The statistical calculation result based on data analysis used t-test and N-Gain. The students’ writing skill using caricature as media is better than conventional media. It was proved by the result of the two tests: pre-test and post-test. In experimental class, the average is 0.40 while the average of control class is 0.14. it means students’ writing skill used caricature as media increased with medium category, while students’ writing skill used conventional media increased with low category. There was significant different between the students writing skill by using caricature and conventional media. It can be seen from T-test result that shows ttable on significance 5% with df = 38 is 2.02, while tcount is 2.76. It means that tcount (2.76) > ttable (2.02). It can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It concluded that the use of caricature as media can improve students’ writing skill and recommended to become an alternative media.
