Abstract

Code switching and code mixing are two phenomena in languages that people do in the utterance of daily conversation. The researcher analyzed the topic of code switching and code mixing which are related to English learning in MasterChef Indonesia's Youtube channel videos. Therefore, this research was conducted to analyze them by carrying out two research questions (1) what are the types of code switching and code mixing in MasterChef Indonesia's Youtube channel videos? (2) what are the factors causing code switching and code mixing in MasterChef Indonesia's Youtube channel videos? This research used a descriptive qualitative method and the theories of Hoffman (1991) and Holmes (2013) to analyze the types of Code Switching and Code Mixing and the factors causing them. The data analysis showed that code switching and code mixing contained in MasterChef Indonesia’s youtube channel videos were mostly Intra-sentential Code Switching and Intra-sentential Code Mixing, followed by Inter-sentential Code switching, Tag Switching, and Intra-lexical Code Mixing. Meanwhile, the factors causing code switching in MasterChef Indonesia’s youtube channel videos mostly consisted of Talking About a Particular Topic or Topic, followed by For Affective Function, and Quoting Somebody Else.
