Abstract

ENGLISH : Polygamy has been a part of history, even as Islam to polygamy is still being discussed. The transformation brought about by Islam includes placing limits on polygamous subjects. Although its interpretation may change over time, the polygamy interpretation is considered inappropriate if it follows the classical view today. Therefore, contemporary thinkers are trying to formulate a method that can deal with current problems so that the interpretation of the Quran can be relevant to the changing times. Fazlur Rahman is a contemporary figure who takes a double movement to the interpretation of the Quran, applying his method to the discussion of polygamy. According to him, the Quran is perfect for dealing with the realities of the past, including polygamy. but what has to be eliminated today is not the law set forth by the Koran but the purpose of defining the law or the main goal expected by the Koran, which is monogamy. INDONESIA : Poligami telah menjadi bagian dalam sejarah bahkan ketika Islam datang poligami masih jadi perbincangan. Transformasi yang dilakukan Islam yakni memberi batasan pada pelaku yang poligami. meski demikian pemahaman tentang tafsir bisa berubah seiring berkembangnya zaman, penafsiran tentang poligami dianggap tidak sesuai bila mengikuti pandangan klasik untuk zaman sekarang. Sehingga pemikir kontemporer mencoba merumuskan suatu metode yang bisa menjawab masalah yang terjadi kini supaya penafsiran tentang al-Qur’an bisa relevan dengan perubahan zaman. Fazlur Rahman adalah tokoh kontempoer yang mengusung metode gerakan ganda dalam penafsiran al-Qur’an, ia menerapkan metodenya pada pembahasan poligami. menurutnya al-Qur’an telah sempurna dalam menyikapi realitas masa lalu diantaranya poligami. namun yang harus ditarik dizaman sekarang bukan hukum yang ditetapkan al-Qur’an melainkan maksud dari penetapan hukum tersebut atau tujuan utama yang diharapkan al-Qur’an yaitu monogami.
