Abstract

The discourse on language as the resource that humanity depends on has also been severely harmed by Covid-19. The unique function of a leader is to hold the hierarchical policy that decides how to address and respond to the pandemic problem. One controversial leader who is purposefully addressing this situation is Donald Trump. However, the words that came out of his mouth have such great influence and strength that they forced people to comply or at the very least comprehend the situation in America. Therefore, in evaluating this phenomenon, the set tools of pragmatics focus on the politeness principle and are in such a detailed understanding of the usage of the language communication pragmatically. Using the qualitative descriptive method, the element will be researched in detail description of new feedback and legitimate intended purposes. Finally, the result denotes serial purposes which are automatically signified by the determination of the politeness principle. Those are the establishment of a friendly, relationship of business, discussing the issue, corporation of policy, desire to survive, communication, desire to make an exit end, and to continue the thrive.
