Abstract

This study is intended: 1) to know kind of slip of the tongue appears in classroom interaction 2) to know the factors affect in appearing slip of the tongue in classroom interaction 3) to know whether it create misunderstanding as in effect of slip of the tongue 4) to know the psychological effect of slip of the tongue to the speaker. In this study, the writer used descriptive-qualitative method to observe the problems. The data was taken from English Service Program (ESP) Club in Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) Bandung year 2013 with purposive sampling - the representative of setting, individual, and activity, as the heterogeneity in population, as the study of critical cases, and as the source to find the differences in individual, setting and activity. The total of data were eighteen respondents. The result of analysis showed that there are six kinds of slip of the tongue. Those are semantic error, malapropism, transposition, anticipations, perseverations and deletion. The percentages for each kinds of slip of the tongue are 3 errors or 25% for semantic errors, 4 errors or 33.33% for malapropism, 1 error or 8.33% for transpositions, 1 error or 8.33% for anticipations, 1 error or 8.33% for perseverations, 2 errors or 16.67% for deletion. Then, the percentage factors of slip of the tongue appearing is 36% for talking too fast, 29% for nervous, 14% for less concentrations, 7% for less fluent in English, 7% for regional accent and 7% of respondents are given the explanation at all. For the effect of slip of the tongue to the interaction in the classroom is 85.71% respondents stated that slip of the tongue caused misunderstanding and 14.29% respondents stated that slip of the tongue did not cause misunderstanding. Meanwhile, the percentage of the psychological effect of the speaker who did slip of the tongue for the expression embarrassed 44%, sadness 6%, laugh 6%, indifferent 25%, nervous 6% and they did not realize that they did slip of the tongue 13%. Finally, the writer concluded that slip of the tongue appeared at English Service Program – ESP – Club in Radio Republik Indonesia – RRI – Bandung year 2013. Slip of the tongue causes effect for the interlocutor and causes psychological effect for the speaker.
