Abstract

The aims of this study are as follows: First, to know the errors do the students made in their writing on the use of verb, second, to know the causes of errors made by the students on the use of verb, third, to know the solution to overcome this problem. And for the research problems are formulated as follows: First, what kind of errors do students made in their writing on the use of verb? Second, what are the causes of errors made by the students on the use of verb? Third, what are the solutions to overcome this problem? The method of research is qualitative and this research also used descriptive method to describe a phenomenon, circumstance which occur actually at present and the sampling method is purposive sampling with the respondents were the students of SMP 4 Negeri in Cikarang Barat-Bekasi. The data were obtained through document analysis or test, questionnaire and interview. There are 10 students or respondents in document analysis, 13 students or respondents in questionnaire and 6 students in interview. The data were recorded and translated into writing. Then, the data were analyzed to get results. Based on the result of research that has done by research toward students in SMP 4 Negeri, verb material is difficulties category. From the document analysis, the verb usage errors are still found in all samples of writing test. Errors mostly made by students of qualification program are: (66.25%) students made errors in using subject verb-agreement is in (using me, am, and, pronoun, noun, to be, singular plural) and also in verb tense is in (using present, past, future). The causes that made students are error in using verb by questioner is causes that the teachers’ unclear explanation is (53.84%). from interview is lack of material mastery (66.66%). The solution that is suggested by students to overcome the errors in using verb from interview is study more in understanding about verb (50%) that followed by practice with guiding by Teacher. It is concluded that lack of Material Mastery is the major factor that causes errors in using verb and the solution that is needed in this error in understanding verb material and practice in writing that using verb.
