Abstract

In learning reading comprehension, the students have several difficulties in comprehending the text, one of them is they has bad reading habit and the teacher still uses conventional teaching techniques to teach reading which it made the students difficult in comprehending a text. Teaching reading comprehension can be taught by using short story app which is considered appropriate to increase the students’ reading comprehension. Thus, the aim of this study was; (1) to find out students' reading comprehension before using short story app (2) to find out students' reading comprehension after short story app, and (3) to find out a significant difference before and after using short story app. In this study, the quantitative method was used as the research strategy, and the pre-experimental research design was used as the research design. SMP IT Al Huda was the location where the research was carried out. In addition, 31 students of eighth grade during the academic year 2021-2022 participate in this study as a sample. The data are obtained through the use of a pre-test and a post-test. The findings of this study indicated that there was a significant difference between the students' reading comprehension levels before and after the use of short stories to enhance reading comprehension. The results of the test showed that the students’ pre-test mean score was 61.25 increasing to 90.63 in the post-test and the t-test showed that the t-count (2.37), which was significantly higher than the t-table (1.55). This indicates that using the short story app could significantly enhance students' reading ability to comprehend narrative texts. In conclusion, students' reading comprehension can significantly improve using the short story app, particularly in narrative text.
