Abstract

This research focuses on analyzing the transformation of the intrinsic elements in After We Collided novel (2014) into After We Collided film (2020). The process of ecranization of novels into films has occurred in this modern era. This is due to the development of technology which is directly proportional to the development of the world of literature. The purposes of this research are; (1) to describe the transformation process that occured in After We Collided novel (2014) by Anna Todd into After We Collided film (2020) by Roger Kumble on plot, setting, and characterizations (2) to describe the transformation functions of the intrinsic elements contained in the novel After We Collided novel (2014) by Anna Todd after being filmed. The researcher uses Pamusuk Eneste's ecranization theory to see the transformation process that occurs in the novel into a film and structuralism theory as a companion theory to see the intrinsic elements that change when the novel is transformed into a film. The researcher uses qualitative descriptive methods, which is used to describe, analyze and interpret everything to find the answers. The research finding show three forms of ecranization according Eneste’s theory those are reduction, addition and variation that occurred on plot, setting and characterization. Then, the function of the process of transforming the intrinsic element of the novel After We Collided (2014) into the film that can produce plots and conflicts in the film to be more concise and stable, emphasizing the transition between scenes that occur in dialogue, emphasize character characters, increase attractiveness for the audience , making the story more effective and gives the impression of a newer and more interesting story while maintaining the core of the story in the novel.
