Abstract

Communicative Language Teaching (CLT) is claimed to support more favorable teaching and learning activities of speaking class. One of the goals of CLT is to develop fluency of language use. The aims of this research are : to find out the fluency and accuracy of tenth-grade students in speaking English without using Communicative Language Teaching, to Find out the speaking abilities of the tenth-grade on students' fluency and accuracy using Communicative Language Teaching, to determine the significant impact of using and without Communicative Language Teaching on improving students' English speaking fluency and accuracy in the tenth grade at SMA Karya Budi. This study used quantitative method with a quasi-experimental approach and using one group pretest-posttest as the research design. The participant of this research included tenth grade of senior high school at SMA Karya Budi Cileunyi Bandung. The findings were: 1) the control class consisted of students taught without CLT was presented by mean score pointing at 63.82 to 65.60, which means slightly improvement on students’ speaking fluency and accuracy. 2) The experimental class consisted of students taught with CLT was presented by mean score which pointed at 59.24 to 78.79, showing that high improvement on students’ speaking fluency and accuracy in using CLT. 3) The significant differences found between without and with CLT presented by N-Gain, the gain score was 0,48 to 0,58 and the statistical t-Test showed that sig (2-tailed) 137 for control and 0,00 for experiment class, meaning that the hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the hypothesis (Ho) was rejected or it is the same as 0.00 < 0.05. Thus, it means there is an influence of using CLT to improve students’ speaking English fluency. To conclude the research findings above, CLT can be implemented as one of the methods to improve students’ speaking fluency and accuracy at the tenth grade of SMA Karya Budi Cileunyi Bandung, as shown there is a significant improvement in students’ speaking fluency and accuracy. This is recomended to teachers, who can use this Communicative Language Teaching in speaking fluency accuracy in the classroom, meanwhile further researchers also can adopt it as the references for their study.
