Abstract
Language ability of every human being is different. Hence, some of the people are able to master multiple languages, which is called as multilingual. The use of various languages can cause a language shift that is mastered by the speaker called as code-switching. Thus, this study aimed to identify and analyze the factors, types, and functions of code-switching performed by Park Naeun in The Return of Superman. This study used a qualitative descriptive method using the theory of code-switching factors by Holmes (2013); types of code-switching by Poplack (1980); functions of code-switching by Gumperz (1982); and communication strategies by Tarone (1981). The data were collected through note-taking techniques in the form of narrative writing and analyzed using content analysis methods by interpreting each code-switching. Based on data analysis, there were 40 code-switching cases that appeared in 54 videos. First, there were four factors of code-switching participants and topic became the least factor with 13 data, while function appeared at most with 19 data. Second, there were three types of code-switching and tag switching became the least type with 14 data, while intra-sentential code-switching had 18 data. Third, there were five functions of code-switching in which the addressee specification became the highest amount with 11 data. On the other hand, reiteration only appeared with 2 data. The results showed, Park Naeun tended to use code-switching as a way to communicate. Code-switching could also help Park Naeun to be able to convey the messages appropriately.
