Abstract

This research examines the gender discrimination contained in film by Niki Caro, Mulan Live-Action 2020 using feminist literary criticism. The purpose of this study is to analyze the gender discrimination experienced by the female main character in the film Mulan 2020, and describe how the female main character in this film struggles to face the gender discrimination that prevails in the surroundings. This research uses a mimetic approach, the results of the problem analysis contained in the film are connected with the situation in real life. The results of this study are concluded into two, namely as follows (1) Describe gender discrimination in the form of stereotyping, subordination, marginalization, and violence experienced by the female main character in the film Mulan 2020 which is seen in several scenes in the film. (2) Shows Mulan's struggle against gender discrimination in her surroundings so that in the end she can achieve her main goal, which is to bring honor to her family in a different way from other women in general.
