Abstract

In this research, Marry Shelley’s Frankenstein (1918) is about character disorder of Victor Frankenstein character. It is being interesting because Victor displayed not only ambitious character but also the one who has social problem. Separated whether relation to nature, to other people, to wealth and the means of production in a society, or else to society as a whole. He left everything to his research, including family, friends, and social environments. This study uses the psychoanalysis approach and method. The researcher applies psychoanalysis of Karen Horney as an approach and method of research. The primary data of this study are Marry Sheley’s Frankenstein. This research exposes the Character Disorder concept to analyze the problems. The result of this research is that in the novel there are the elements of Character disorder reflected in Victor Frankenstein as the main character who has excessive ambition. Firstly, one element of the character disorder is alienation reflected in Victor Frankenstein when he does the research. His research did makes a breakup with another man. He is truly alienation from social, and becomes an antisocial personality. Secondly, the element of character disorder reflected in Victor is anxiety. His life after suffering a terrible incident when he manages to revive creatures eventually becomes life-threatening monster. His life was always anxious. Every night was always passed with suffering. Thirdly, the element of character disorder reflected in Victor is hopelesness. As a result of his actions, he must bear the sorrow and anguish. He is deeply regretted his actions until he was tortured alive. And the last, the element of the character disorder reflected in Victor Frankestein character is blame. Blame portrayed in the character of victor when disappointment and hopelessness in Victor Frankenstein could not be buried anymore. Then the character Victor Frankenstein is to blame others for his actions.
