Abstract

The globalization era requires teachers to use technology in their learning and teaching. CALL (Computer-assisted language learning), which uses a computer and the internet to learn, is one example of how technology may be used in teaching and learning. As a result, the purpose of this study is to investigate students' motivation to learn English using CALL. The significance of this research is to examine the process of CALL implementation and the students' motivation when learning English through CALL. The qualitative technique was employed in this study, specifically the case study design. Participants in this study were 19 students from MTs Sukamaju's 7th A and B classes. Purposive sampling was utilized in this study. This study employed three data collection methods: observation, questionnaire, and interview. The first study question was answered by observation, whereas the second research question was addressed with a questionnaire and an interview. This study found that students' engagement in learning activities utilizing CALL at MTs Sukamaju, Garut was good, with an overall score of 80.76%. It was the same with the outcome of teacher observation; it could be regarded as good because the majority of the observation checklists were in point number four, excellent. Observed from the teacher throughout CALL implementation were five classifications: preparation, presentation, execution/method, personal traits, and teacher/student interaction. The second study demonstrated that using CALL made students delighted to learn English and that their views regarding CALL were largely favorable. As a result, it may be assumed that adopting CALL boosted students' motivation to study English. To summarize, the results indicated that CALL implementation at MTs Sukamaju and Garut was fairly good. So far, students have liked studying English through CALL, and it has motivated them to learn more.
