Abstract

Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus pellita) is one of the few plants that is used in Garut Regency, so it is necessary to use it, one of which is to be processed into essential oils. Essential oils are often used for various purposes because they have benefits as anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, anti-bacterial, and antibacterial. This study aims to determine the yield, chemical compound content, and antibacterial activity of essential oil of eucalyptus leaves originating from Garut Regency. Eucalyptus (Eucalyptus pellita) leaves were separated between the stems and leaves, dried, crushed, and distilled using Stahl distillation. After that, analysis of chemical compounds was carried out using Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (GCMS) and tested for antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus using the paper disc method. Eucalyptus leaf essential oil extraction results obtained an oil yield of 0.34%. The chemical compounds that make up the essential oil of eucalyptus leaves originating from Garut include limonene (50.47%), α -terpinyl acetate (13.40%), 1,8-cineol (7.26%), γ -terpinene (7 .07%), α -terpineol (5.52%), and α -phellandrene (3.20%). The diameter of the inhibition of the sample containing 100% and 50% essential oil was in the strong category and the sample containing 25% was in the medium category.
