Abstract

Numerous instructing English falls brief of satisfying its objectives. Indeed after several years, learners do not pick up certainty in utilizing the dialect in offline and online classrooms. Indeed, genuine communication includes thoughts, feelings, sentiments, fittingness, and adaptability. The ordinary English course barely allows the learners to utilize dialect in this way and create familiarity with the online discussion. In this manner, improving the learning method may assist the students in improving their speaking skills through the innovative method. In this paper, the reseacher attempted to reveal students' experiences utilizing an internet dialogue on their talking familiarity. These research purposes are 1). To analyze students' experiences using an online discussion to practice their speaking skills. 2). To know how discussion techniques improve the students speaking skills. The research utilized a qualitative method, specifically a case study design. This method was used to explore the students' encounters by applying an internet dialogue on their speaking fluency, while the data was gained from the observation, questionnaire, and interview. The research uses a case study design in analyze the online discussion process. The participants of this research were six students of semester two from the English Education Department UIN Bandung. Based on the data analysis results, two essential points can be concluded. First, the online discussion brought diverse experiences for students. Five of six students said that the online discussion was fun and could prepare their speaking skills. However, one student did not really need to use online discussion because she did not feel comfortable with online discussion. Others students enjoy the online discussion and could make the students speak in front of the class. Online discussion motivated students and offered fun activities to create positive attitudes towards their foreign language, culture, and dialect learning. The students' experiences using online discussion increased their speaking fluency. It can be seen that most of the students have positive reactions to online discussions. Moreover, the student said that discussion activities assisted their speaking skills, mainly in expression and fluency. The study suggests that an online discussion technique can be applied to improve students’ speaking skills. Moreover, online discussions build students' confidence in speaking fluency.
