Abstract

Numerous students at Islamic Junior High School in Indonesia struggle with learning English through listening, which is the source of inspiration for this study (Quyen and Dan, 2018). The website lyrictraining is used to tackle this issue (Azhari, 2018). The website Lyricstraining can boost students' interest in learning English by listening. This study aims to ascertain the outcomes of students' listening skill prior to the implementation of lyricstraining website, the outcomes of students' listening skill after the implementation of lyricstraining website, and finally to ascertain whether there is a significant difference between students' listening skill prior to and after the implementation of lyricstraining website. This research uses a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design. The population of this research is the first grade of MTsN 15 Tanah Datar, which consists of three classes, VII.1, VII.2, and VII.3. The experimental class VII.2, which has 20 students, is the sample. Pre- and post-tests are the instruments used for data collecting. The researcher employed the mean for the normality test, hypothesis test, and index gain test in order to examine the data that had been gathered. The pre-test mean before starting treatment was 44.75, while the post-test mean after starting treatment was 77.6. It is clear from the findings above that the results are superior to those obtained after receiving treatment. As a result, the t-test calculations reveal that the tcount is 25, and the ttable is 0.95. Thus, the t count is higher than the ttable. As a result of the tcount exceeding the ttable, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was accepted and the null hypothesis (Ho) was rejected. The results shows that using the lyricstraining website significantly improves students' listening skills. Based on the explanation, teaching listening by using lyricstraining website can improve students’ listening ability at the 7th grade of Islamic Junior High School in Indonesia especially in MTsN 15 Tanah Datar. In order to attract students and inspire their interest in studying English listening, this recommended to English teacher that listening materials can employ the lyricstraining website.
