Abstract

Learning strategy is the methods that students use in the learning process. This study aims to examine learning strategies in English public speaking courses. Thus, the learning strategy will determine students' learning methods in speaking. For those purposes, the primary purpose of the case study is to learn how students comprehend the information in public speaking classes. Second, it investigates the most typical challenges that students have in English public speaking classes. Lastly, it focuses on the learning strategies used in English public speaking classes. The students who enrolled 2nd-semester students of English education students at UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung were selected as participants. This study chooses participants with observation and purposive. Four students were chosen from twenty- four EFL students based on their enthusiasm for speaking classes. This study gathered research data through interviews to evaluate the learning strategies that EFL students usually use in public speaking classes. Based on the data collected, answer for the research question the first is the case study is to learn how students comprehend the information in public speaking classes. It showed that learners utilized strategies namely community language learning and cognitive strategy, based on their needs and the manner they typically study. Firstly, why students choose the community language learning because the learners demonstrates in speaking classes employ this strategy because the students prefer to hone their speaking skills slightly differently. Secondly, cognitive strategy students can understanding of information is acquired through stages involving manipulation and active involvement.
