Abstract

This study was intended to know the students' perception in travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling. Specifically, this study aim to achieve the objectives: (1) How is the process of using travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling; (2) How do the students respond to travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling. This study use a qualitative research design, specifically a case study. The participants were 20 students In SMKN 2 Kutacane. To obtain the data, observation and interviews were used. The observation data aim to discover the teaching process of using travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling. Then, interviews were used to analyze students' responses to travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling. The findings show that first, regarding to the process of using travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling was implemented with the procedure of teaching vocabulary divide into three sections; pre-activity, while-activity, and post-activity. Second, based on the student's respon in the interviews, 100% of students said that vlogs was useful to improve the students’ vocabulary skill. In addition, students understand the speakers' explanation on a vlogs. Regarding interest in future self-studying, the students said they would watch to other vlogs in other YouTube channels as learning media. In conclusion, this research indicated that using travel vlogs as media for teaching vocabulary of traveling to know the students’ perception. Vlogging has a significant effect on the learning vocabulary process to the XI SMKN 2 Kutacane. Vlogs is statistically significant better to the students’ vocabulary skills. The student's responses after observation are taught by using travel vlogs. Moreover, vlog is very recommended in the teaching-learning process, especially in learning vocabulary. Meanwhile, the teacher should be teach how to pronounce, prepare the materials and ask the student to practice. For the student, they have to be more interested and active in learning activities.
