Abstract

Industrial revolution as the background of industrialization start in England between 1750until 1850 which change happening in agriculture, manufacture, mining, transportation and technology, giving the big effects to social condition, economy and culture. Industrial Revolution mark changes in every aspects especially in population growth matter and continously average income, where transition occurs from using labor in England that use human labor and animal labor before, switch to using machine manufacturing-based. Industrialization also give the big effects and the big benefit, but in the other side there are the new problems, that capitalist industrial system which effected on liberalism, live pragmatism, individualistic, consumerism, hedonism, materialism and secularism and also giving effect to the poorer workers, class conflict are increasingly evident and population move massively from village to city that finally causes swelling of the population in big cities of England. To see industrialization effects in England, this research focused in a literary work, in this research, researcher focused on novel to knowing Industrialization effects on George Orwell The Road to Wigan Pier. The Road to Wigan Pier written in 1937 to be important because tell about experience, notes and idea from George Orwell when he walk down the slums area in England. In conducting this research, the researcher uses the concepts or the theories of the research as below genetic structuralism to analyze how industrialization describe in England and then explain about capitalism and socialism as the effect of Industrialization. Genetic structuralism is a branch of literary research using autonomous structural studies as a basis, then continues with aspects outside of literary works, which include social conditions that helped build the birth of the literary work. genetic structuralism is a structural analysis by paying attention to the origin of the work. In this case, the structure refers to both intrinsic and extrinsic structures, but it is still supported by several social theories such as the concept of homology, social structure, collective subjects, and world views. The existence of industrialization brings changes in community activities. One of it is the change of the artisans and farmer activity to the laborer in the factory . Factory comes as the new industry where it required bodies of laborers working and building where the machines were placed. Because it requires collective of laborers working, it arouses the expansion of collective labor under control the capitalist. Then mode of production is known as the capitalist mode of production where it set by the capitalist. That there are two sub classes in capitalist classes they are bourgeoisie class and proletariat class. Bourgeoisie class or is known as the capitalists are those who has control the world‘s nature, economic and human resources while proletariats are those who live in substandard conditions and usually is known as the working class such as the labor of the mining, the factory work, the ditch digging and the railroad building. They lack such the means of production, ownership or control. ABSTRAK AFINA AJI BANGKIT. 1135030005. Efek Industrialisasi dalam The Road to Wigan Pier karya George Orwell (1937). Skripsi, Jurusan Sastra Inggris, Fakultas Adab dan Humaniora, Universitas Islam Negeri Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung. Pembimbing: Prof. Dr. H. Agus Salim Mansyur, M.Pd; 2. Bunyamin Faisal, S.S., M.Pd. The Road to Wigan Pier.
