Abstract

This research is about the students’ reading habit on school literacy movement program and their vocabulary mastery. The objective of the research was to know whether there was a correlation between students’ reading habit on school literacy movement program and their vocabulary mastery at the seventh grade of SMPN 59 bandung. The purpose of this research is to examine whether there is any significant effect of literacy program on the students’ reading habit of seventh grade at SMPN 59 Bandung. The research methodology used correlation research design. The total sample in this research was 30 students at B class. In collecting data, the writer used 10 quesionner for rading habit and 25 multiple choice for vocabulary mastery. The findings indicate that from the mean result of the students reading habit on non-test is 70, from the result it could be concluded that the reading habit of the students is good. And from the mean result of the student’s vocabulary mastery test is 72, from the result it could be concluded that the vocabulary mastery of the students is enough. This means that there is a significant relationship between reading habits and vocabulary mastery in seventh grade SMPN 59 Bandung. If the results are interpreted with match the calculation result with the correlation index number "r" product moment, it turns out that the amount of r_xy (0.500) is between the position 0.40 - 0.70 which is means between reading habits (variable X) and vocabulary mastery (variable Y) there is a moderate or sufficient correlation. There is a significant relationship between reading habits and vocabulary mastery at seventh grade of SMPN 59 Bandung. The researcher has suggestions for the teacher should be actively participate to the students’ in the implementation of literacy program, for the students’ the implementation of literacy program in everyday can make the students have a good intensity to reading, for the future researchers to use the finding as an additional reference and as a consideration in conducting the next research and make the new rules so that students relax in reading habit on school literacy movement.
