Abstract

Vocabulary has a major position in foreign language acquisition as an element connecting to four language skills in EFL learning. Students need to gain an appropriate amount of words and to be able to use them properly and reliably so that they can communicate successfully in a foreign language. However, some students of MA Tanwiriyyah were still lack of vocabulary on listening comprehension. This study aims to examine a correlation between EFL students' vocabulary mastery and their English listening skills. Three research questions are discussed. 1) What is EFL students’ vocabulary mastery for the second-grade students of MA Tanwiriyyah? 2) What is EFL students’ listening skills for the second-grade students of MA Tanwiriyyah? 3) How significant is the correlation between students’ vocabulary mastery and their listening skills?. This study was designed to a quantitative correlation approach. The population of research at MA Tanwiriyyah, Karangtengah, Cianjur was confined to second-grade students. The vocabulary test score and listening test score were delivered to the 25 students of XI- science 2. Meanwhile, the use of sampling technique is that simple random sampling of probability sampling. The research findings have been examined to determine the correlation calculated by Pearson in SPSS 26. The data analysis shows a coefficient of correlation (Rxy) of 0.898. This demonstrates that there is a high corelationship between vocabulary and the listening skills among students. This contains a score of interpretation from 0.800 to 1.00. The score is then compared to 5% with the score for df=23 and showed 0.413 (0.898> 0.413). The rt score was generated at df=23. As a result, the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted.
