Abstract

This thesis is undertaken under the study of code mixing analysis which focuses on the types of code mixing and the classification of illocutionary acts as proposed by Hoffman (1991) and John Searle (1969). The types of code mixing analyzed are intra sentential, intra lexical and involving a change of pronunciation. The classification of illocutionary speech acts analyzed are assertives, directives, commissive, expressive, and declarative in the film Merry Riana Dream Million Dollars. Therefore, the objectives of this study are: 1. To analyze the classification of illocutionary speech acts in the dialogue of Merry Riana's film using a bilingual approach. 2. To find out the types of code mixing in the Merry Riana film. The method used is qualitative using descriptive analysis techniques. Based on the data analysis, the findings show that 21 data describe the classification of illocutionary speech acts, including 8 data on assertives, 3 data on commissive, 6 data on expressive and 4 data on directives. Related to the second objective, the results showed that there were 21 types of code mixing that described the type of code mixing, including 5 intra sentential code mixing data, 3 intra lexical code mixing data and 13 data involving pronunciation changes. In realizing this type of code mixing, the characters in Merry Riana's film, Merry are influenced by three types of code mixing, namely intra sentential code mixing, intra lexical code mixing and involving changes in pronunciation. From the results of data analysis, the researcher concludes that the most widely used type of code mixing is the one that involves changes in pronunciation. Furthermore, the types of code mixing affected are the relevant outcomes and circumstances.
