Abstract

This study aims to discover the process of utilizing the movie still photos as media for learning descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. It was primarily meant to obtain the goals: 1) To find out the implementation of the teacher using movie still photos as media to teach descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. 2) To find out the students' perception of using movie still photos to learn descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. 3)To find out the teacher's perception of using movie still photos to teach descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. The study was designed as a case study involving one English teacher and nine students of the seven-grade at Junior High School in Karawang in the academic year of 2020/2021. To collect the data, this study used observation, a questionnaire, and an interview. The observation was held to observe the implementation of a teacher using movie still photos as media in teach descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. Then, the questionnaire was taken to the nine students, all writing proficiency levels. The teacher was interviewed to gain perceptions of implementing movie still photos as media in teaching descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. The finding concluded three items. First, the implementation of a teacher using movie still photos as media in teach descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. In this process, Students can produce ideas and accumulate vocabulary for the topic and improve their organization, grammar, and mechanics while writing using movie still photos. Second, the student's perception of using movie still photos to learn descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. The students' perceptions of a movie still photos positively because movie still photos help them generate ideas and create a literary structure. Third, the teacher's perception of using movie still photos to teach descriptive text on WhatsApp messenger. The teacher's perception of a movie still photos is an excellent method because it encourages students to be more creative, active and help students enjoy writing descriptive text. In conclusion, this study discovered that practically all students had positive perceptions of using movie still photos. Additionally, the teacher provides a positive view of a movie still photos as a medium for teaching descriptive text.
