Abstract

This study was intended to know students' interest in the teaching of speaking using podcast applications. Specifically, this study aim to achieve the objectives: (1) How is the teaching of speaking using podcast application carried out in the classroom setting; (2) What is the student's interest in the teaching of using podcast application. This research use a qualitative research design, specifically a case study. The participants were 20 students In SMAN Unggul Subulussalam. To obtain the data, observation, questionnaires, and interviews were used. The research was conducted in a literal speaking class. The observation data aim to discover the teaching process in students listening skills using podcasts. Then, twelve questionnaires and interviews were used to analyze students' responses listening to podcasts. The findings show that first, regarding the process of using podcasts to know students speaking skills was implemented with the procedure of teaching speaking divide into threesection; pre-activity, while-activity, and post-activity. Second, based on the student's respon in the questionnaires and interviews, 100% of students said that podcast was useful for student interest. 75% of students understand the speakers' explanation on a podcast. Regarding interest in future self-studying, 85% of students said they would listen to other podcast channels as learning media. In conclusion, this research indicated that using podcasts to know student interest of using podcast application as learning. Podcasting has a significant effect on the learning speaking process to the XI SMAN Unggul Subulussalam. Podcast application is statistically significant better to the student speaking skills. The student's responses after observation are taught by using a podcast application. Moreover, podcast application is very recommended in the teaching-learning process, especially in learning speaking. Meanwhile, the teacher should be prepare the materials and teach how to pronounce, and ask the student to practice. For the student, they have to be more active and interested in learning activities.
