Abstract

Language is a tool for people to interact each other to express their thoughts, ideas, feelings, and emotions. The way people expressing their feeling is different. Some people express it with direct expression and some people do not. One expression to show emotion is lyrics. Hence, the object of this research is song lyrics from Beach Bunny’s Honeymoon Album. Theoretical basis used in classifying types of metaphor is the theory proposed by Larson (1984). Larson metaphor divides types into two parts, namely dead metaphor and live metaphor. While the theoretical basis used to analyze the meaning of the metaphor is the theory proposed by Griffiths (2006). Griffiths split into three, namely understanding the meaning of the sender’s meaning, sentence meaning and utterance meaning. The researcher applies qualitative descriptive method in doing this research. This method does not contain any number from the result of data. This research used the words to give description of data. The data are taken from Beach Bunny’s Honeymoon song album that focuses on classifying the selecting data based on the types and meanings of metaphor. The writer finds the main findings of this research. Those are: a). two types of metaphor: dead metaphor (7 data) and live metaphor (14 data) and b). three types of meaning: sender’s meaning (6 data), sentence or literal meaning (6 data) and utterance meaning (9 data). From these findings, the writer concludes that the use of metaphor that contained in The Beach Bunny’s Honeymoon album is to make the lyrics more beautiful and powerful.
