Abstract

This research was intended to discover students’ speaking ability in teaching digital storytelling, and the researcher only focused on speaking accuracy. Specifically, this research was aimed to achieve the objectives: (1) To know the activities during learning speaking using digital storytelling of narrative text, and (2) To know the students’ speaking ability by using digital storytelling narrative text. This research used a qualitative research design, specifically in a case study. The participants were nine students of the 10th grade at Al-Ittihad Vocational High School Cianjur in the academic year 2020/2021. The participants were selected purposively based on the students’ scores in English lessons. To obtain the data, observations were used. The observation data was aimed to discover the process of students’ in teaching digital storytelling narrative text, and for recording the video the researcher chooses document analysis and the type of document analysis is video recorder. This research showed that the final result from the observation is that student ability was increased after being taught using digital storytelling. It can be seen that all of the students did not read any text because they spontaneously described a short video digital storytelling narrative text. In addition, the eighth and ninth students got the highest percentage in retelling short video digital storytelling narrative texts. They got a score of 90 each. Also, the students have experience in learning by using digital storytelling, although most of their responses are pretty near the speaking accuracy. Their answers are increased in this technique, digital storytelling narrative text. They have good knowledge about retelling stories. Moreover, nine students were interested in learning by using digital storytelling because there are more students to share the ideas with, and also this teaching makes the students enjoy.
