Abstract

Reading is considering one of the essential skills, as other skills can be influenced by reading. Reading is one of EFL students' challenges because the text's central idea or content is still challenging to understand. Therefore, this research is intended to explore the implementation of the teaching of reading using multimodal texts in online EFL classroom. This research aims: (1) to find out the implementation of teaching reading using multimodal texts in online EFL classrooms, (2) to reveal the students' responses to the teaching of reading using multimodal texts in online EFL classrooms. This research used a descriptive qualitative design, in particular a case study. The participants of the research were 9 (nine) students at 8th grade of SMP At-Tamamah Bayongbong, Garut. The data was obtained from observation, questionnaire, and interview. The purpose of this observation was to find out the process of teaching using multimodal text in the online EFL classroom. Then, the questionnaire and interview to discover the students’ response after using multimodal texts. The results indicate that all multimodal texts procedures can be carried out during the process of using multimodal texts in online EFL classroom The use of multimodal texts in online EFL classroom shows that most students give a positive response to the application of multimodal texts to improve students' reading comprehension and this strategy specifically helps them to focus on finding the main idea of the text. In addition, the use of multimodal texts also can helps teachers in deliver the learning material to students and makes them to enjoy the class and feel a different atmosphere in learning English. To sum up, multimodal texts can be applied in online EFL classroom. This research is recommended for those who want to know the results of implementing of teaching reading using multimodal texts in online EFL classrooms.
