Abstract

Illocutionary act is an action that will be performed corresponding with utterance or the meaning understood by the listener. Representative is an action in which the word states what speaker believes to be truth. There are five types of illocutionary act that are: Representative, Directive, Commissive, Declarative and Expressive. There are functions of representative that are: Describing, Reporting, Claiming, Predicting, Stating and Complaining. This study aimed to find out types of illocutionary act and functions of representative in Muniba’s Speech. This study is used Searle’s theory. Object in this study is Muniba’s speech. Then, this data were analyzed using descriptive qualitative method. The results showed that the types of illocutionary act in Muniba’s Speech consist of 188 Representative, 66 Directive, 13 Commissive, 9 Declarative and 28 Expressive. The researcher also found the functions of representative in Muniba’s speech consist of 36 Describing, 10 Reporting, 31 Claiming, 6 Predicting, 101 Stating and 4 Complaining. The researcher concluded that the most widely used types of illocutionary act in Muniba’s speech is Representative and the most widely used functions of representative in Muniba’s speech is Stating. The researcher suggested to the further researcher to learn more about Illocutionary act because in this study, the researcher only analyzed types of illocutionary act and the researcher focused on functions of representative.
