Abstract

This study is conducted to identify and analyze one part of the study of pragmatics, conversational implicature. This study aims to identify how the conversational implicature raised in the dialogue and analyze the function of the implicature found in the dialogue in Maleficent 2 movie. This research is a qualitative research using document and note-taking techniques. This research identifies and analyzes speech data in the form of dialogue based on the object of research. The data obtained to identify how the process of conversational implicature raised in the dialogue according to what Herbert Paul Grice states. The conversational implicature are raised when the speaker and the hearer do not obey the maxim it’s called as non-observing maxim, but when someone understands and they have the same context even though their answers or expression do not match, then the flouting can be accepted. Once identify, the data analyzes to find out and put forward the function of the implicature that has been found. The results show that the conversational implicature found in Maleficent 2 movie are obtained from four flouting maxim with the flouting maxim of relation being the most flouting maxims that caused the emergence of conversational implicature and the least popular one is maxim of quantity. In addition, the implicature functions contain in the Maleficent 2 movie dialogues are refusal, scolding, motivation, entertaining, melting the situation, mockery, stopped the information, encouraging, providing the information, stalling the time, diversion, and consolation.
