Abstract
The aim of this research is to identify women speech features and its function in Love, Rosie movie. This research is descriptive qualitative, which uses content analysis approach. The writer uses the dialogue from women characters from Love, Rosie movie as the data source. The writer collects the data by downloading the movie, watching it, identifying the data, listing the data, then collecting and grouping the data. After that, the writer analyzes the data by managing the data, categorizing the data, describing and interpreting the data then drawing conclusions. The writer uses Robin Lakoff theory (1973) about women speech features to analyze the data. There are 65 data found in this research that can be classified as lexical hedges with 17 data, tag question with one data, rising intonation on declarative with 5 data, empty adjective with 3 data, intensifier with 11 data, superpolite form with 10 data, avoidance of strong swearword with 3 data and emphatic stress with 15 data. There are two types of speech features that can’t be found in this research, they are precise of color terms and hypercorrect grammar. Later, the result shows that women speech features have five function; to get response, to soften utterance, to express uncertainty, to start a discussion and to express feeling. Each of the function fill different type of the women speech features.
