Abstract

Politeness becomes the most important aspect of using language because people have to consider other people's feelings. Both the speaker and the hearer should respect each other by using politeness strategies. In daily communication, people sometimes do not speak words politely or they sometimes talk without thinking that their words might hurt the feeling of the hearer. The writer studied only on the positive politeness strategies, therefore the study will be more focused in one topic. This study used the interview between Zach and Niki in Zach Sang Show as the object. The writer had two research questions, (1) what types of positive politeness strategies are used by Niki and Zach in Zach Sang Show’s interview, (2) how are positive politeness startegies applied by Niki and Zach in Zach Sang Show’s interview. Therefore, this study aims to find out what types of positive politeness strategies are used by Niki and Zach in the interview and to understand how did Niki and Zach apply positive politeness strategies in Zach Sang Show’s interview. The writer used positive politeness strategies analysis based on the theory of Brown and Levinson (1987). The method used in this study is a qualitative approach that is descriptive analysis, which is a study that provides an objective description. There are 82 data and 14 out of 15 types of positive politeness strategies found in Zach Sang Show’s interview with Niki and they both applied those strategies by considering the payoffs and the circumstances: sociological variables. Kesopanan menjadi aspek terpenting dalam menggunakan bahasa karena manusia harus mempertimbangkan perasaan orang lain. Baik pembicara maupun pendengar harus saling menghormati satu sama lain dengan menggunakan strategi kesantunan. Dalam percakapan sehari-hari, manusia terkadang tidak mengucapkan kata-kata dengan sopan atau terkadang berbicara tanpa berpikir bahwa kata-katanya dapat melukai perasaan pendengarnya. Penulis hanya fokus pada strategi kesantunan positif, oleh karena itu penelitian akan lebih terfokus pada satu topik. Penelitian ini menggunakan wawancara antara Zach dan Niki dalam Zach Sang Show sebagai objeknya. Penulis memiliki dua pertanyaan penelitian, (1) jenis strategi kesantunan positif apa yang digunakan oleh Niki dan Zach dalam wawancara Zach Sang Show, (2) bagaimana strategi kesantunan positif diterapkan oleh Niki dan Zach dalam wawancara Zach Sang Show. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui jenis strategi kesantunan positif apa yang digunakan oleh Niki dan Zach dalam wawancara dan untuk memahami bagaimana Niki dan Zach menerapkan strategi kesantunan positif dalam wawancara Zach Sang Show. Penulis menggunakan analisis strategi kesantunan positif berdasarkan teori Brown dan Levinson (1987). Metode yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah pendekatan kualitatif yaitu deskriptif analisis, yaitu suatu penelitian yang memberikan gambaran secara objektif. Terdapat 82 data dan 14 tipe strategi kesantunan positif dalam wawancara Zach Sang Show dengan Niki dan keduanya menerapkan strategi tersebut dengan mempertimbangkan imbalan dan keadaan: variabel sosiologis.
