Abstract

Borrowing word is a word adopted from one language and incorporated into another language. English as an international language widely absorbed by many countries including Japanese language. This thesis discusses English borrowing in anime Re:creators and aimed to find three things : 1. Kinds of English borrowing words which are found in anime Re:creators 2. The types of meaning changes on anime Re:creators. According to Haspelmath (2009) borrowing words are divided into three kinds: cultural borrowing, core borrowing, and therapeutic borrowing. There are five types of meaning changes according to Chaer (2002: 141): extension of meaning, narrowing meaning, change meaning totally, change the meaning of refinement, and shift of meaning into coarseness.. In this study the writer used the method of documentation. The steps of collecting data are described bellow: 1. watching and understanding anime Re:creators. 2. choosing the data in the anime Re:creators. 3. Selecting the data dealing with the purpose of the study. According to Moleong (2002), data analysis is the process of sorting data, organizing it into a basic pattern, category, and description unit. . In order to make it systematic, the writer conducted the analysis through some steps as follow: 1. Watching and understanding the anime Re:creators. 2. Interpreting it to find the borrowing words on anime Re:creators. 3. Finding out the borrowing words on anime Re:creators.4. Make conclucion based on anylized data. The result shows twenty one data describe kinds of English borrowing words found in anime Re:creators which are divided into cultural borrowing, core borrowing, and therapeutic borrowing. The researcher also found five data related to the shift of English borrowing word’s meaning in anime Re:creators. They are theory of extension, theory of narrowing meaning, theory of change meaning totally, and theory of shift of meaning into coarseness.
