Abstract

Extrovert and introvert are characteristics of personality that can be found within every student in the classroom. Extrovert refers to students who prefer to get their energy from the environment, more open, and accessible to express opinions while introvert describes as uncommunicative, not very sociable, and better to stay alone. Some studies suggest that personality traits have a major effect on the degree of success that individuals achieve in learning a second language, especially in speaking skills. Speaking is one part of students' life that most important in socialize with others. It makes easier for the student to create a social relationship as a human being. Therefore, this study is intended to find the correlation between extrovert and introvert students' personality toward their speaking skills. This study is aimed: (1) to find the extroversion level of students in speaking class at English Education Department UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, (2) to find the speaking score of students in speaking class at English Education Department UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung, (3) to find the significant correlation between extroversion level of students and their speaking score. This research used a quantitative research approach, particularly correlation design, by using IPIP-BFM-50 to find students' personalities and collecting students' speaking score. The participants of this research were thirty of second-semester students of English Education Department, which was selected by random sampling. The data was obtained from questionnaires and documentation. The data analysis was presented by using Person product-moment formula manually and using SPSS 26. The result of this study showed that the correlation between extroversion level of students and their speaking score is a low correlation, got from the correlation coefficient score result is 0,274. Based on the test hypothesis, the significant (2-tailed) is 0.142 or higher than 0.05. So, the alternative hypothesis is rejected and the null hypothesis is accepted automatically. In conclusion, there is no significant correlation between extroversion level of students and their speaking score of thirty students of the second semester of English Education Department, the Faculty of Teacher and Training, UIN Sunan Gunung Djati Bandung.
