Abstract

This research examines the illocutionary act of the directive in the Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script, directed by Joachim Ronning. The research questions are: (1) What utterances having directive illocutionary acts found in Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script, (2) What are the types of directive illocutionary acts found in Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script, and (3) What is the function of illocutionary acts in Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script. This study uses Searle's theory (1976), Leech's theory (1983), and McManis theory (1988). This study uses a content analysis method with a qualitative approach. The source of data from this research is the dialogue in the Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script written by Linda Woolverton. The data of this research are utterance containing directive illocutionary acts which include speech, types and functions of directive illocutionary acts in Maleficent Mistress Evil movie and movie script dialogue. The data analysis technique used in this research is to use the content analysis method by analysing the speech or conversation contained in the Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script. The data collection technique in this research is by downloading and watching it. The results of this research are three points related to directive illocutionary acts that is speech, type and function, plus context as supporting data analysis. In the speech or dialogue in the Maleficent Mistress of Evil movie and movie script, there are five types of directive illocutionary acts that is requesting, commanding, inviting, suggesting, forbidding and there are four functions of illocutionary acts that is competitive, collaborative, convivial and conflictive. In addition, the context used in analysing the speech uses four contexts that is physical context, epistemic context, linguistic context and social context.
