Abstract
This research investigates social and discourse deixis in movie Troy script. The objectives of the study are to know social and discourse deixis in movie Troy. To find of the purpose of utterance, the research has two research questions which indicate process of analysis; 1) What types of social deixis are there in Troy movie script? 2) What types of discourse deixis are there in Troy movie script? Levinson’s theory (1983) and qualitative research method applied in this research. The result of this research showed that the researcher found 89 social and discourse deixis. 39 data absolute social deixis, then, 29 data relational social, meanwhile, 11 data cataphora discourse deixis, next, 10 anaphora discourse deixis. The result of the research shows that absolute social deixis were the most often appear in the movie script. The result, utterance has purpose, means and reference that shows respect, politeness, closeness or refers to what is happening.
