Abstract

ENGLISH : Language is a tools to show expression, such as anger, happiness, or surprised. Some people consider that swearword is an appropriate language to show those expressions. It can be said that swear word is an appropriate language to show those expressions. Thereby, there are two questions in this research, they are: 1) What kinds of swearword used in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics? 2) What are the motives of swearing in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics? The researcher uses Hughes’s theory about classifications in supporting the finding relating to swear words found in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics. Beside that, to support the finding about motives for swearing, the researcher uses Hughes (2006) and Jay’s (2000) theories. To answer the research questions, the researcher uses qualitative method. This method is used identifying the classifications of swearword and describe the motives for swearing. The data of this research are taken from Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics. The researcher then collects, analyzes, discusses, and interprets the data. The result shows that 38 swearwords are found in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics which are classified into 9 classifications. They are: in general term there are 15 data, excretory are 7 data, sexual Irregularity are 5 data, anatomy are 3 data, death term are 3 data, stupidity are 2 data, religion is 2 data, and animal is 1 datum. Based on finding above, the most frequently uttered in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics is general swearword with 4,3% that are as much as 15 data. And the least frequent is animal with the presentage 2,4% that is as much as 1 datum.   INDONESIA : Bahasa adalah alat untuk menunjukkan ekspresi, seperti kemarahan, kebahagiaan, atau terkejut. Sebagian orang beranggapan bahwa swearword adalah bahasa yang tepat untuk menunjukkan ekspresi tersebut. Dapat dikatakan bahwa swearword adalah bahasa yang tepat untuk menunjukkan ekspresi tersebut. Dengan demikian, ada dua pertanyaan dalam penelitian ini, yaitu: 1) What kinds of swearword used in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics? 2) What are the motives of swearing in Ariana Grande and Pansy Division’s song lyrics? Peneliti ini menggunakan teori Hughes tentang klasifikasi dalam mendukung temuan yang berkaitan dengan swearwords yang ditemukan dalam lirik lagu Ariana Grande dan Pansy Division. Selain itu, untuk mendukung penelitian tentang motif dalam penggunaan swearwords, peneliti menggunakan teori Hughes (2006) dan Jay (2000). Untuk menjawab pertanyaan penelitian, peneliti menggunakan metode kualitatif. Metode ini digunakan dengan mengidentifikasi klasifikasi swearwords dan motif dalam penggunaanya. Data penelitian ini diambil dari lirik-lirik lagu Ariana Grande dan Pansy Division. Peneliti kemudian mengumpulkan, menganalisis, membahas, dan menafsirkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa 38 swearwords ditemukan dalam lirik lagu Ariana Grande dan Pansy Division yang diklasifikasikan ke dalam 9 klasifikasi. yakni: dalam general term sebanyak 15 data, excretory sebanyak 7 data, sexual irregularity sebanyak 5 data, anatomy sebanyak 3 data, death sebanyak 3 data, stupidity sebanyak 2 data, religion sebanyak 2 data, dan animal sebanyak 1datum. Berdasarkan temuan di atas, yang paling sering diucapkan dalam lirik lagu Ariana Grande dan Pansy Division adalah general swearword dengan presentase 4,3% yang terdapat sebanyak 15 data. Dan yang paling jarang adalah animal dengan presentase 2,4% dan terdapat sebanyak 1 datum.
