Abstract

The study explorer the use of English webtoon comic on students’ vocabulary enhancement – a pre-experimental study at the first grade of SMP Plus Baiturrahman Bandung. The objective of this study is to investigate whether english webtoon comic is significantly effective in students’ vocabulary enhancement. It aims at the three points, namely (1) to know the students’ vocabulary score before using English webtoon comic, (2) to know the students’ vocabulary score after use English webtoon comic, and (3) to know the effectiveness of English digital comic to enhance the students’ vocabulary. This is a pre-experimental study, employing one experimental group of 34 first grades students of SMP Plus Baiturrahman Bandung. The group was taught with English webtoon comic to enhanced student’s vocabulary score. The data were students’ score in vocabulary test, given before the treatment (pre-test) and after the treatment (post-test). The data, then, were proceeded to the statistical analysis. The statistical results of the data analysis show that the average score of students’ vocabulary test before using webtoon comic is 57.35 which means low category, while the average score in the result of posttest by using digital comic is 70.58 which means high category. The result of calculating t-test is t count = 13.2 which is higher than t table = 2.03. In brief, H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. It means there is a significant difference of students’ vocabulary score by using webtoon comic. Based on the results, it can be concluded that there was significant effect of English webtoon comic on student’s vocabulary score. The use of English webtoon comic should be maintained frequently and recommended to English teachers, especially to teach Junior High School students in order to attract their motivation in learning English to be more fun.
