Abstract

Reading is one of the studies that have important skill in this globalization era. For developing an nderstanding of comprehension, the people need to have a good habit of reading. The main objectives of this study are to find out 1) the students’ habit of reading online materials, 2) the students’ reading comprehension achievement, 3) the significant correlation between the students’ habit of reading online materials and their achievement in reading comprehension at the 11th -grade students of SMAN 1 Ciemas. In this case, the target populations were the 11-grade students of SMAN 1 Ciemas. There are 212 students of six classes in the 11 th-grade student. The sample of this research is 37 students of XI-A. The writer used descriptive quantitative design to describe the data. The writer used the questionnaire and the reading test. The questionnaire was about students’ habit of reading online materials and their achievement in reading comprehension. Then, the reading test focused on examining students’ reading comprehension achievement. From the result of this research, the students’ habit of reading online materials at the 11 th -grade students of SMAN 1 Ciemas is identified in average level. It is based on the result with a mean of variable X in every indicator are: mean of the student's habit frequency is 2,87, for students’ habit of a number of books is 3.83 and for the student's habit of reading motivation is 2,84. Based on the explanation above, the student's habit of reading online materials is in average level which is mean enough. Moreover, to know the students’ reading comprehension achievement of 11th -grade students of SMAN 1 Ciemas is considered in a good level. The result of the previous data is known that the mean of variable Y is 7,81. For the correlation between students’ habit of reading online materials and their achievement in reading comprehension at the 11th th-grade students of SMAN 1 Ciemas is found that it has a correlation. In determining hypothesis by using a t-test, if tcount < ttable, it can be interpreted that H0 is accepted and Ha is rejected. Whereas, if tcount > ttable, it can be interpreted that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. Based on significance degree of 5% the alternative hypothesis (Ha) will be accepted if tcount is greater than ttable. Based on the calculation, ttable on significance 5% with df = 35 is 2.03, while tcount is 4.92. It means that tcount (4.92) > ttable (2.03). It can be concluded that H0 is rejected and Ha is accepted. In the other word, there is a significant positive correlation between students’ habit of reading online materials and their achievement in reading comprehension.
