Abstract

Affixation is the process of attachment of a bound to a base which is more often used than the other word formation processes. In a movie, the use of affixation is often found since one word may gain many words with different word classes. This research aims at firstly, finding types of affixes found in the movie and secondly, analyzing morphological process of the affixes found in the movie. In analyzing the data, the theories applied are proposed by Zapata’s theory on types of affixes and O’Grady & Guzman’s theory on morphological process of the affixes. The method applied is descriptive qualitative method since the data analyzed are in the forms of words. There are 563 data and 30% data (168 data) chosen as the representative for the materials of discussion. The results of this reserach are firstly, of 168 or 30% data chosen, it was found there are 56 data of derivational affixes and 113 data of inflectional affixes. Secondly, in morphological process of affixes which was found in Home Alone 1990, this process produced changes in word meaning and in grammatical structure. The conclusion is in Home Alone 1990, it was found that there are a great number of words appeared as a result of affixation process. The suggestion is through learning affixation process, it can enrich vocabulary skill by categorizing one word into various words with different structures and meanings.
