Abstract

ENGLISH: Lexical Ambiguity means that the word that may have two or more different meaning, it fits into a given context but the form is same, and two or more different words may be identical in sounds. In this research entitled “Lexical Ambiguity in Stranger Things 1st Season Movie Series” states 2 problems those are, what is the exactly meanings of words which is assumed of lexical ambiguity that found in Stranger Things 1st Season Movie, and what forms of lexical ambiguity that found in Stranger Things 1st Season Movie. The purposes of this research are to analyze the exact meaning of word that assumed of lexical ambiguity which relates to the context of the movie, and also what forms of lexical ambiguity. The researcher uses Stephen Ullmann’s theory to analyze the lexical ambiguity, and Murphy’s theory to analyze the lexical ambiguity form. Descriptive qualitative method becomes a research design to conduct this research. The researcher becomes the only one research instrument. To collect the data the researcher download the movie, watch the whole episodes, match the subtitle with the movie, write and identify the words which lexically ambiguous based on the episode and duration. The procedures of data analysis contain of identify the word, find the meaning based on the dictionary, adjust it with the context, categorize the lexical ambiguity form, and the last is draw the conclusion. The result of this research shows that all of 35 words that found in the dialogue from 8 episodes of Stranger Things 1st season movie are an ambiguous word. Absolute Homonymy is the most dominant form which is 26 words, while there are only 3 words for Homophone, 4 words for Homograph, and 2 words for Polysemy and the conclusion is stating that lexical ambiguity can be appeared in oral or written language. INDONESIA: Ambiguitas Leksikal bermakna bahwa sebuah kata dapat memiliki dua atau lebih makna yang berbeda, cocok dengan konteks yang diberikan tetapi bentuknya sama, dan dua atau lebih kata yang berbeda dapat identik dalam bunyi. Dalam penelitian yang berjudul “Ambiguitas Leksikal dalam Film Seris Stranger Things Sesi Pertama” menyatakan 2 masalah yaitu, apa makna sebenarnya dari kata-kata yang diasumsikan ambiguitas leksikal yang ditemukan dalam film Stranger Things sesi pertama, dan apa bentuk leksikal ambiguitas yang ditemukan dalam film Stranger Things sesi pertama. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis makna kata yang diasumsikan sebagai ambiguitas leksikal yang berhubungan dengan konteks film, dan bentuk-bentuk ambiguitas leksikal yang ditemukan dalam film tersebut. Peneliti menggunakan teori Stephen Ullmann untuk menganalisis ambiguitas leksikal, dan teori Murphy untuk menganalisis bentuk ambiguitas leksikal. Metode deskriptif kualitatif menjadi desain penelitian yang untuk melakukan penelitian ini. Peneliti menjadi satu-satunya instrumen penelitian. Untuk mengumpulkan data, peneliti mengunduh film, menonton seluruh episode, mencocokkan subtitle dengan film, menulis dan mengidentifikasi kata-kata yang secara ambigu leksikal berdasarkan episode dan durasi. Prosedur analisis data berisi identifikasi kata, menemukan makna berdasarkan kamus, menyesuaikannya dengan konteks, mengkategorikan bentuk ambiguitas leksikal, dan yang terakhir adalah menarik kesimpulan. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa 35 kata yang ditemukan dalam dialog dari 8 episode film Stranger Things sesi pertama merupakan kata yang ambigu. Dan Absolute Homonymy adalah bentuk yang paling dominan yaitu 26 kata, sementara hanya ada 3 kata untuk Homophone, 4 kata untuk Homograph, dan 2 kata untuk Polysemy dan kesimpulannya menyatakan bahwa ambiguitas leksikal dapat muncul dalam bahasa lisan atau tertulis.
