Abstract

Language is an effective communication tool and has an important role for humans. As a tool of communication, the language used by humans to interact between each other in the community because people living in the community. Onestudy that deals with verbal communication is pragmatics. Pragmatics talks about people’s intended meaning, their assumption, their purpose or goals andalso the kind of action. This study attempts to analyze pragmatically theconversational implied meaning or simply called implicature on the dialogue of Avenger: Age of Ultron Movie Script based on Grice’s Cooperative Principle and its maxims. The main objective of this research is to discover how utterance can go beyond itsliteral meaning by the disobeying or flouting of some principles by the speakerin dialogue because flouting maxims particularly salient way of getting a hearer to draw an inference and hence recovers an implicature or implied meaning. There are three research problems being observed namely: (1) What are type of the conversational implicatures that occur in dialogue of Avenger: Age of Ultron Movie Script (2) What are type of flouting maxims that violated by the chararcters in the dialogue in Avenger: Age of Ultron Movie Script (3)What is the most dominant type of the conversational implicature and the most dominant type of flouting maxims in Avenger: Age of Ultron Movie Script. This research is using descriptive qualitative method. It is intended to investigate that three research problems inrelation flouting maxim and conversational implicature. The data are theutterances in the dialogue of Avenger: Age of Ultron movie script that contain implicature. After analyzed the datas, the total of the utterance which flout the maxim are 18 which means they generate 18 conversational implicatures in the dialogue The Avengers: Age of Ultron movie script. There are; flout the maxim of quality (1), flout the maxim of quantity (10), flouts the maxim of relevance (6), and flout the maxim manner (1). The type conversational implicature is divided into two types. There are generalized conversational implicatures (1) and particularized conversational implicatures (17).
