Abstract
Abbreviation is a shortened form of a word or phrase used in writing to represent the complete form. An abbreviation is a result from abbreviating one word. It is used to summarize idea in communication. The use of abbreviations will add new vocabulary. This research is aimed to find the forms of abbreviation found in The Jakarta Post Online Newspaper. By describing the abbreviation in the method of spelling with word pronunciation in English and the morphological process of the abbreviation found in The Jakarta Post. The used data in The Jakarta Post are the forms of abbreviation found in Business Column. This research is a qualitative descriptive research that is expresses in the form of words. In analyzing the data, the researcher uses theories from Yule (1996), Plag (2002). Based on the results of data analysis it can be concluded that 1). The existence of spelling and the pronunciation on abbreviation give a new vocabulary for development English, such as word Asean, Jisdor, NPL, CAR and other; 2) There are two forms of abbreviation found, those are derived from taking by initial letters and non initial letters. Each form has different spelling and pronunciation.
